History of Hayes Mission School

Established in September of 1968, the school's first graduating class was in 1971, and its first Principal was Fr. Rev. McCarthy Hayes, UHCA. There were 9 students in that class. Classes were first held in the All purpose building. The first school building, School Hall, consisted of four classrooms, Rooms 1 through 4, and a small library, which opened in 1973. The first expansion included the western wing of School Hall in 1974-77. The Library was constructed in 1979-80 and the former library was converted into kindergarten classrooms. And than the Auditorium was added. The enrollment ranged between 400 to 500 students for many years.

The third expansion was the home of the tigers. a large Olympic size football field was the constructed and dedicated by Bishop Hayes in 1980. The big girls dorm and big boys dorm was added to accommodate the expanding size of our students. The church, Upper Room Tabernacle was reconstructed and rededicated through a special trip made by Bishop and Elder Lois Hayes in 2007. We look forward to the rebuilding of all of the buildings that was destroyed during the civil war. We also look forward to bring back the full use of an Olympic size pool. There is also an airfield and a hanger to house a plane on campus. We look forward to rebuilding that massive building and turning it into a poultry farm. Plans are on the way to start the construction of the school's library and roofing all the buildings for the 2009 school year. The school attracts students from all over the Monrovia, Bomi area and has become competitive in its admissions process.
